Man arrested after 'foam-tipped round' fired near Alvah

A man was arrested after police fired a foam-tipped round to end a disturbance.

Officers were called to a rural property just off the A97 near Alvah, Banff, on Sunday at about 23:15 where a man was believed to have a weapon.

Grampian Police said a Home Office-approved non-lethal "foam-ended" projectile was discharged.

A 42-year-old man was arrested at about 07:50 on Monday and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Assistant Chief Constable Colin Menzies said: "Regrettably it is sometimes necessary for police officers to resort to the use of force to resolve situations where the public or officers themselves are at risk.

"As a result of our actions I must stress that no further injury or harm was caused to the man arrested, the public or the officers concerned."
