An elderly woman was seriously hurt when an ambulance crashed into trees in the outskirts of Aberdeen.

The vehicle left the road in Riverview Drive, Dyce, at 03:40.

The 84-year-old female patient who was in the ambulance was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with "serious" injuries where she was said to be stable.

The ambulance crew - a 49-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman - were also treated in hospital.

Riverview Drive was closed for about six hours to allow an investigation to take place.

Grampian Police, appealing for witnesses, said it was not yet known if weather conditions were a factor in this collision.
