Police in Aberdeen have appealed for witnesses after a sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl.

The attack happened about 22:00 on Monday in the Torry Battery area of the city.

Police are keen to trace a man who was described as muscular, in his mid-30s to 40-years-old, and just over 5ft tall.

Grampian Police said they would also like to hear from anyone who saw a silver-coloured car in the area.

Det Insp Cammy Preston said: "Investigations into the incident are at a very early stage however I would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Abbey Place and Balnagask Road area around the time of the incident to come forward.

"This type of incident is rare in the Grampian area however, as always, we would like to remind the public to be mindful of their personal safety."
