Grampian drink-drive figures rise sharply

The number of drug and drink-drivers caught in Grampian over the festive period rose sharply, police have said.

A total of 57 drink-drivers were reported, compared to 47 in the previous year.

Of these, 47 were men and 10 were women, and 11 were charged after accidents.

Seven drug-drivers were reported - four after crashes - compared to none the previous year. Grampian Police said it was only by luck no-one was killed.

On Thursday, the Moray food tycoon Audrey Baxter was fined and banned from the road after admitting drink-driving on Christmas Eve.
