The search for a 20-year-old man who disappeared near cliffs south of Aberdeen has been stood down.

Grant Ritchie is feared to have fallen into the sea while walking with his girlfriend after a party in Cove in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was last seen at about 01:00 near to the Cove Rangers football ground.

The scaled-down search had resumed on Tuesday, helped by some of Mr Ritchie's family and friends.

Grampian Police Insp Iain MacLelland said: "Over the last three days we have conducted an extensive search.

"We have also been assisted by a large number of family, friends and the local community.

"While the physical search in the area where Grant was last seen is now complete, we will continue other enquiries in the wider area."

He added: "Grant's family have been kept informed of developments throughout the search and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time."

Grampian Police said Mr Ritchie was 5ft 7in tall, slim, and was wearing a light grey long-sleeved top and jeans.
