Female pedestrian killed on A947 in Aberdeenshire

A female pedestrian has been killed in a collision with a car in Aberdeenshire.

The 66-year-old woman was hit by a blue Audi A4 on the A947 Fyvie to Turriff road at Birkenhills at about 06:20.

A Grampian Police spokesperson, who appealed for witnesses to the collision, said the road was closed for several hours to allow an investigation to take place.

The force later said that the route had been re-opened.

Sgt David Pirie said: "This is an extremely tragic event and our thoughts are with this woman's family at this difficult time.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in this area around the time of the collision, and who may have either witnessed the collision or noticed a female pedestrian."
