A new deep-water facility at Shetland's Lerwick Harbour has been brought into operation to support a major subsea project in the North Sea.

The work, completed ahead of schedule, will make the facility available for use by Technip, which has been awarded a contract by Maersk Oil North Sea UK.

The support vessel Fugro Symphony has berthed to collect 270-tonne reels for installation as part of the project.

Lerwick Port Authority said the new quay would attract more traffic.
