Statoil platform Stratfjord C shut down after gas leak

Production on a North Sea production platform has been closed down following a toxic gas leak.

More than 200 staff on Statoil's Stratfjord C installation, in Norwegian waters, were mustered to the lifeboats, while boats and helicopters were mobilised.

Four people using breathing equipment went down the utility shaft.

They have identified the source of the hydrogen sulphide leak, which the company said was now under control.
