A man has gone on trial accused of causing the deaths of an elderly couple on the outskirts of Aberdeen by driving carelessly on a dual carriageway.

Elizabeth Cable, 78, and her husband William, known as Jim, 79, from Aberdeen, died in a crash on the A944 Kingwells to Westhill road in 2009.

Gary McCrohon, 32, is said to have been driving a Nissan Skyline when it crashed with the couple's car.

The trial, at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, continues.
