Apology over Stonehaven's Mowat Court care home criticism

The owners of an Aberdeenshire care home which was criticised in a report have apologised.

The Care Inspectorate reported a "wide range" of issues at Care UK's Mowat Court in Stonehaven.

Care UK said it was accepted high standards had not been met.

Care UK's director of nursing Frances Gibson said: "We made substantial changes to the management team to implement a comprehensive improvement programme."

'Initial improvements'

A Care Inspectorate spokesperson said: "The complaint - which involved a wide range of issues - in relation to Mowat Court Nursing Home was fully upheld.

"One of these issues involved the use of inappropriate restraint, whereby cushions and pillows had been positioned under a mattress which prevented the resident from easily getting out of bed.

"There have been initial improvements to the service and we are closely monitoring progress to ensure these improvements continue."
