A puppy has died after being found tied to a truck in Aberdeenshire.

The Scottish SPCA said the six-month-old female golden retriever was discovered in Peterhead's Blackhills area.

The severely underweight dog was taken to a vet clinic but could not be saved.

Senior inspector Scott Elphinstone said: "Leaving her tied to a truck while she was clearly suffering was extremely callous and we are very keen to identify the person responsible."

The charity said the dog weighed 5.8kg, but should have weighed about 20kg.
