A pile of wood chips which has been smouldering at an Aberdeenshire recycling plant since last June has been dismantled and is said to be almost out.

The fire broke out at Keenan's near New Deer and was deemed too environmentally hazardous to extinguish.

The pile has now been fully dismantled, to allow cooling.

One resident had described the situation with smoke as "absolutely horrendous".
