Bervie Braes road in Stonehaven reopens for summer

Bervie Braes Many households had to be evacuated at Bervie Braes

The Bervie Braes road in Stonehaven - which has been closed for several years - is to reopen during the summer months.

The April to September ruling on the stretch, between the Kincardineshire town and Dunnottar Castle, was made by members of Aberdeenshire Council's policy and resources committee.

The £300,000 option comes with a weight limit of three tonnes, and a 20mph speed limit.

The aim is to reopen within weeks.

It was closed due to landslips. The approved option had been endorsed by members of the Kincardine and Mearns area committee.

The reopening of the Bervie Braes could be worth up to £9m a year to the area, a report claimed in February.
