Man dies and two injured on A98 near Cullen

A man has died and two people were left injured - one seriously - after a two-vehicle accident in Aberdeenshire.

The crash happened at about 13:30 on the A98, about three miles from Cullen.

It involved two Nissan Almera cars, one red, the other blue, going in opposite directions. One of the drivers, who was elderly, died at the scene.

Another man was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, while a woman was taken to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin.

Police said the man taken to hospital was 59 and his female passenger was 56.

Sgt David Pirie said: "We are currently making inquiries into the circumstances of this collision and I would appeal for witnesses who saw either of these vehicles travelling on the road and who have not been spoken to already to contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency 101 line."
