Baby dies following delivery after crash at Marykirk

A baby has died after being delivered following a crash involving its pregnant mother in north east of Scotland.

The crash involving two BMWs happened on the A937 at Marykirk on Tuesday morning.

Police Scotland said a pregnant 27-year-old woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but her child died.

The A937 at Marykirk has been closed to allow collision investigations to take place.

'Tragic incident'

Sgt Rob Warnock, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a tragic incident where sadly a baby has died.

"Our sympathies at this very difficult time are with the families affected by this collision.

"We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision.

"A report on the circumstances will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course."

The crash involved a black BMW and a silver BMW.
