A fire which caused extensive damage to a block of council-owned flats in Orkney is being investigated.

Fire crews in Stromness were joined by colleagues from Kirkwall in tackling the Alfred Terrace blaze, which broke out just after midnight.

Crews used breathing apparatus to enter the building. No-one was hurt in the fire, which destroyed the first floor.

The council has been trying to re-house residents.
