Police are linking an assault to an incident in which a man died after being hit by a car in Aberdeenshire.

The man died at the scene of the collision involving a silver Mercedes in South Road, Fraserburgh, at about 18:00 on Friday.

At the same time police were alerted to an incident in the same area in which a man was assaulted.

Police said the events were "linked but separate".

A 20-year-old man has been reported in connection with the assault and is expected to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses.

They would particularly like to speak with the driver of a light-coloured car, who spoke with the dead man before the incident near to the Gray and Adams premises on South Road.
