Drivers charged after clampdown in Aberdeen

More than 40 drivers have been charged after a police clampdown in Aberdeen's west end.

A total of 44 motorists were charged with offences including speeding, jumping red lights, and using a mobile phone at the wheel.

They include a43-year-old man who will be reported for driving at 42mph in a 20mph zone near Airyhall Primary School on Countesswells Road.

The operation was carried out on Thursday and Friday.

'Especially disappointing'

The Great Southern Road and Springfield Road areas were also targeted.

Sgt Ian Davidson, who organised the operation, said: "It is incredible that so many drivers have been stopped over the two-day operation and that people continue to drive whilst using mobile telephones, without wearing seatbelts and above the speed limits.

"It is especially disappointing that these offences are committed near to schools where the danger of this behaviour is so much higher."
