SSE Renewables pulls out of Orkney tidal project
SSE Renewables has pulled out of a tidal energy project in Orkney.
SSE had last week played down comments from its chief executive Alistair Phillips-Davies which appeared to suggest it was moving out of the marine energy sector.
But it has now been announced that its lease of the Westray South area of seabed has been transferred.
SSE Renewables is currently reviewing its involvement in three other marine energy projects in Orkney.
Cork-based DP Energy has taken over the lease.
Simon De Pietro, DP Energy's managing director, said the transfer placed the company at the top of the marine energy development sector.
