Army Apache helicopter makes emergency landing in Maryculter field

An army Apache helicopter has been forced to make an emergency landing on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

Aberdeen International Airport was put on full alert, but the helicopter landed in a field near Maryculter.

The two people on board the helicopter escaped injury.

The Ministry of Defence said the mechanical failure would be investigated. The Apache had been taking part in Nato's Operation Joint Warrior training exercise.

Eyewitness Kevin Park told BBC Scotland: "We heard a helicopter outside, it was quite loud so it was obviously quite low.

"We recognised it as an Apache.

"It landed in a field across the road.

"We went across and spoke to the pilot and co-pilot."

On Monday evening a twin-rotor Chinook arrived at the scene of the emergency landing.
