Aberdeen's May Festival gets under way

The University of Aberdeen's May Festival has got under way, with thousands of people expected to attend the various events.

Journalist Kate Adie, writer Tony Parsons and Charlatans singer Tim Burgess are among those appearing.

There is also a dedicated programme for children taking place.

University Principal Prof Sir Ian Diamond said: "Last year's festival was a huge success and I am sure the 2014 event will prove even more popular."
