Biker badly injured in A947 Oldmeldrum to Fyvie road accident

A motorbike rider has been seriously injured in a crash in Aberdeenshire.

The 28-year-old man crashed into a house on the A947 Oldmeldrum to Fyvie road before 07:00.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said the man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He is understood to have suffered a head injury.

The road was closed for several hours and diversions put in place. The man's bike caught fire after the crash.

The emergency services attended a second motorbike collision on the A947 on the Newmachar to Whiterashes road at the Udny Green junction.

That stretch re-opened shortly afterwards.

Last week, police issued a safety plea after there were 12 collisions involving bikers in the space of a week in the north east of Scotland.

One was killed, six were seriously hurt and four escaped with less serious injuries.
