A body recovered off Orkney has been identified as that of a missing man.

Michael Ritch, 33, had been reported missing by his family on 24 July.

Last Thursday, Kirkwall Lifeboat recovered a body off the coast of Copinsay. Police Scotland said they could now confirm it was local man Mr Ritch.

His disappearance had sparked an air and sea search around the western coastline of Orkney.

The coastguard search and rescue helicopter, along with both the Stromness and Kirkwall lifeboats, were called out.

Two shore-based teams also searched the surrounding area.

Mr Ritch's red Skoda Fabia car had been found abandoned near cliffs at Yesnaby a day after he was last seen.
