Jail term for Peterhead strangulation man Mark Fraser

A man who strangled a woman with his scarf in Peterhead has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Mark Fraser, 43, left his victim on the floor of her living room turning blue and unable to breathe, thinking she was going to die.

He later wrote to her saying he was not trying to murder her, but wanted to give her a "scare",

Fraser was convicted of assault to danger of life, and was jailed at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Judge Lord Uist said: "You must understand that the crime which you committed was a very grave one, involving ligature strangulation in her own home to the danger of her life."

The attack happened in November last year.
