Work to replace Inveramsay Bridge bottleneck 'to start within weeks'
Construction work on a new overpass to replace the notorious Inveramsay Bridge bottleneck in Aberdeenshire is set to begin within weeks.
The bridge is over the A96 between Inverurie and Huntly.
The Scottish government will award the £10m contract to Balfour Beatty, it has been announced.
The improvements involve constructing a new road along the east side of the railway for more than a mile and a new bridge across the tracks.
It will remove the need for traffic lights and straighten out the section of road.
The Scottish government said work should get under way within weeks, with construction due to end in the spring of 2016.
