Aberdeen travelling people by-law plan rejected

Plans by Aberdeen City Council to introduce a by-law banning unauthorised encampments of travelling people have been rejected by the Scottish government.

The local authority was told it had provided insufficient evidence that adequate action has been taken over the accommodation needs of travellers.

The council was also told any by-law could be potentially discriminatory.

Plans for a new permanent halting site were recently dropped.

The council had identified Howes Road, between Northfield and Bucksburn, as the preferred location.
