Work to remove the notorious Inveramsay Bridge bottleneck in Aberdeenshire is under way.

The bridge is over the A96 between Inverurie and Huntly, where only single file traffic can pass, and a new road and railway bridge are to replace it.

Transport Minister Derek Mackay visited the site as work began.

It will remove the need for traffic lights and straighten out the section of road. It is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2016.
