Fire crews tackle Pitcaple Castle blaze

Eight fire crews have tackled a blaze at a historic castle in Aberdeenshire.

Firefighters were called to Pitcaple Castle, off the A96, north of Inverurie, just before 16:45 on Tuesday.

A blaze on the ground floor of the 15th Century building had spread to a first-floor bedroom.

No-one was hurt in the fire but a cat died. The amount of damage is still being assessed and an investigation has begun.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Over the centuries the castle has been visited by King James IV, Mary, Queen of Scots and King Charles II.
