Construction work on a new Aberdeen mosque and community centre has got under way.

The three-storey venue on Nelson Street will house prayer halls, a dedicated women's facility and a family community area.

It is hoped the £1.5m Masjid Alhikmah project will be completed by the end of the year.

Naveed Qamar, who represents the committee behind the centre, said it had been a long time coming.

CHAP Group's construction division is the main contractor.
