Police name man killed in three-car crash near Dufftown

Police have named an 81-year-old man who died after a three-vehicle collision in Aberdeenshire on Saturday afternoon.

Great grandfather Patrick Pirie, who was from the Dufftown area, was fatally injured in the crash on the A920 Dufftown to Huntly road.

Relatives said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened and shocked.

"His passion was farming and he worked from his teenage years until well into his seventies."

The Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at about 15:55.

Mr Pirie was taken to hospital in Elgin, where he died of his injuries.

A 22-year-old Renault Twingo driver was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

A 26-year-old man, who was driving a Volkswagen Golf, suffered minor injuries that were treated at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours to allow police to carry out investigations.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
