'Addicted' driver jailed after chase in Aberdeenshire

A driver "addicted" to fast cars who led police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle has been jailed.

Ricky Forrester, 21, was told it was lucky no-one was killed after driving at excessive speeds through Aberdeenshire before he eventually abandoned the BMW X5.

He was jailed for 18 months at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Jordan Chesser, 17, who Forrester had been racing, was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders institution.

The pair are both from Aberdeen.

Forrester drove at up to 50mph through Inverurie town centre.

'Show off'

Chesser drove a stolen car into a police car at one point during the incident on 12 December last year.

Sheriff Annella Cowan said: "This is one of the longest, sustained and most dangerous cases of driving I've heard narrated in this court.

"The public, never mind you, are quite lucky that no-one was killed."

The pair were disqualified from driving for three years, after admitting dangerous driving.

Forrester's solicitor John Ferrie said: "He fully accepts that he is addicted to driving. He drives to show off."

Chesser's defence agent Peter Shepherd said his client was adamant his fascination with cars would be controlled.
