Appeal after ticket examiner assaulted on train

A train passenger who assaulted a ticket examiner is being sought by British Transport Police.

The incident happened on a train travelling between Aberdeen and Laurencekirk on Saturday night.

British Transport Police said the male member of staff was grabbed around the throat by a man for no apparent reason.

He was described as being in his mid 50s, bald, of heavy build, and was wearing a black jacket, black trousers, a blue shirt and a black scarf.

He got off the Aberdeen to Dundee train at Laurencekirk just before 23:00. The incident happened at about 22:40 on the approach to Portlethen station.

Officers have reviewed CCTV footage and the man believed to be responsible was seen being dropped off by a silver estate car at about 13:30 the same day.
