Man dies after Aberdeenshire crash near Hatton

A 48-year-old man has died in hospital following a two-vehicle crash on the A90 in Aberdeenshire.

The collision took place at about 10:45, close to the village of Hatton.

The man who died was driving a Ford Transit tipper van. A 26-year-old man driving the other vehicle - a Mercedes van - is being treated for serious injuries in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The road was closed at the scene of the crash for several hours to allow for recovery and investigation work.

Sgt Colin Matheson of Police Scotland said: "Our thoughts at this particularly sad time are with the family and friends of those involved.

"We have spoken to a number of witnesses already in order to help piece together exactly what has happened.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision, or who saw the incident itself and who hasn't yet come forward to do so as soon as possible."
