Phoenix Chemical firm entering administration

The jobs of 34 chemical factory workers are at risk after the owners of a Dumfriesshire chemical firm said the business was going into administration.

Merseyside-based Phoenix Chemicals opened the plant, near Annan, last year with the help of a £400,000 grant from the Scottish government.

The site had been empty since a pharmaceutical company pulled out with the loss of 86 jobs in March 2009.

It is understood the factory will continue to operate in the short term.
