Payment systems group Ingenico, which has its European headquarters in Fife, has won a five-year contract with car hire firm Avis.

The contract includes supplying 3,000 chip and pin machines and ongoing IT support and maintenance in 1,000 retail locations across Europe.

The roll-out of the new payment system for Avis will start at the beginning of 2012.

Ingenico employs 200 people at its site in Dalgety Bay.

The contract will be serviced from the Fife base.

Ingenico has developed a system called Axis which centralises the management of transactions for large businesses. It claims Axis helps companies to control costs.

Ingenico Northern Europe managing director Craig Doyle commented: "Ingenico continues to lead the field in the development of innovative transaction management solutions that can deliver real bottom line benefits for our customers.

"Our partnership with Avis Europe will enable them to take advantage of our cutting-edge technology whilst ensuring that the business is fully compliant with new and complex payment regulations and standards."
