A landmark Glasgow office building is to be refurbished to meet a shortage of prime commercial space in the city.

Hermes Real Estate Investment Management has said it will invest £8.5m in the revamp of the block in St Vincent Street.

The redevelopment will involve stripping the building back to its frame. The work will take at least six months.

Hermes said the work would give a "boost" to commercial development.

Ian Cody, of Hermes said: "With such limited development in the pipeline in Glasgow it is only a matter of time before occupier demand for Grade A space begins to outstrip supply in the city centre."
