A Kilmarnock nightclub and bar has ceased trading with the loss of 21 jobs, administrators have confirmed.

The Monkey Bar in St Marnock Place was placed in administration in November after a sustained period of poor trading.

Administrators Begbies Traynor said the business had failed to meet its targets amid continuing tough market conditions.

The business and its assets, including the property, are now being marketed.

In a statement, Begbies Traynor said: "Increased local competition with the opening of another night club in the town before Christmas proved to be the last straw for the business."
