About 250 jobs are to be created after a firm was awarded a contract to work for a North Sea gas field.

Wilton Engineering Services will fabricate a long-term compression module for ConocoPhillips.

It is for the Britannia field, which is about 130 miles (210km) off Aberdeen.

The company said up to 100 new jobs, and a further 150 sub-contract posts, would mean 250 jobs for the Teesside area. Energy Minister Charles Hendry said it was "great news".

Bill Scott, chief executive officer of Wilton Group, says: "Wilton Engineering is delighted to have been awarded the contract to work on this prestigious project."
