Plans have been submitted for a £44m hotel, restaurant and retail development in the east end of Glasgow.

The Arena development would be located alongside the new National Indoor Sports Arena and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome facing Celtic Park.

Developers said the project at Springfield Cross would bring more than 400 new local jobs.

Glasgow City Council is expected to make a decision on the application by July.

The plans, which have been drawn up by Scottish architects Reiach and Hall, include a new 160-bedroom Tulip Inn hotel, several retail and restaurant units and a dental and healthcare facility.

Glasgow-based developer Kevin Fawcett said the project had been designed to meet the needs of both national and international athletes and visitors to Glasgow 2014 sports arenas as well as the local community.

He added: "This development is an essential component of the regeneration of the area already being achieved by Glasgow City Council and Clyde Gateway, and will make a real difference to Glasgow's east end and most importantly those who live there."
