DE Shoes puts branches up for sale

De Shoes Keith DE Shoes has put its shops across Scotland up for sale, putting more than 200 jobs at risk

A Dundee shoe chain has put its branches in Scotland up for sale after falling victim to the economic hardships of the high street.

DE Shoes said it would consider selling its stores individually, or en-bloc as a going concern.

The 146-year-old family-run company employs more than 200 people and has 31 branches across the country.

DE Shoes added that since its troubles had become known, footfall had increased.

It suggested customers were trying to show support for local shops.

Managing director Robert Sinclair said that there was "a great opportunity" for prospective investors to save the 31 outlets.

Mr Sinclair also stressed that a 90 day consultation with staff about the company's future was continuing.
