Eye care firm Black & Lizars is buying well-known Edinburgh optician John Trotter & Co for an undisclosed sum.

The Glasgow-based company said the deal would increase its branch network in Scotland to 25. It also has a practice in Northern Ireland.

John Trotter & Co was founded nearly 150 years ago and is based in George Street.

Under the deal, all current Trotter staff will be retained. The Trotter name will also be kept.

Trotter managing partner Eleanor Leech said: "Trotters is a long-established business, founded in 1867.

"It shares the same values as Black & Lizars, focused on delivering the best possible level of visual health care."
