Police are trying to trace a convicted killer who failed to return to an open prison near Dundee after home leave.

Daniel Somers was due back at Castle Huntly jail on Wednesday after being granted a week's temporary release.

Somers, from Glasgow, was jailed for murder in 1978 but was released on licence in 1999. A year later he was recalled following a charge of assault.

The 49-year-old is 5ft 8in tall, with blue eyes and shaven brown hair. He has tattoos on both arms.

Anyone who has seen Somers or who knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact Tayside Police.
