Son jailed for attacking mother in Galashiels

A son who inflicted 25 head injuries on his mother during an argument over loud music has been jailed for 40 months.

Niall Gray, 20, admitted assaulting his mother to her severe injury at a house in Beech Avenue, Galashiels, on 9 June.

Gray also admitted threatening to stab police officers who found the 43-year-old victim semi-conscious in a living room surrounded by pools of blood.

At Selkirk Sheriff Court, Sheriff Kevin Drummond described him as "a danger to the community".

Gray, who was described as a prisoner in Edinburgh, said he had drunk alcohol and injected heroin before the offences.
