Warning over hoax tax rebate callers in the Borders

Scottish Borders Council has warned the public not to be taken in by callers claiming they are due a tax rebate.

A number of people have been contacted recently and asked for bank details to receive a significant refund.

However, the local authority has said it would never phone "unexpectedly" regarding a council tax repayment.

It has advised the public not to give out any details or, if they do, to contact their bank or credit card company immediately.
