Galashiels halls of residence plans approved

Councillors have approved plans for new halls of residence at Heriot-Watt University's Galashiels campus.

They will provide accommodation for more than 200 students and parking for more than 60 cars.

Some councillors objected to the plans as being too high and too close to a nearby retirement village.

However, developers said they could not move it because of the position of a boiler house for the existing buildings which would be demolished.
