Borders school bus accident driver dies

A 35-year-old woman from Hawick has died following a collision between her car and a school bus in the Borders.

The accident happened at 0825 BST on the A698 between Denholm and Hawick.

The bus was taking eight pupils from Denholm to Jedburgh Grammar School when it was involved in the collision with the woman's Suzuki Vitara.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Two adults and three pupils on the bus were taken to hospital with minor injuries and shock.

The road was closed while inquiries were being carried out at the scene, and local diversions were put in place.

It was expected that the road would remain closed for up to four hours.
