St Abbs car parking fees extended to run all year

Visitors to St Abbs will soon have to pay all the year round to use the local car parks.

Borders Council executive members have backed a report recommending that the seasonal charging policy should be dropped.

Costs will rise, with the minimum fee now £1 for up to one hour's parking.

Local councillor Jim Fullarton said divers visiting the town took up parking facilities for extended periods so a balance needed to be struck.

Previous charges had run from March to October and had a minimum fee of 50p an hour, with a £7 fee for more than seven hours.
