Body found and man injured in Castle Douglas shooting

A man's body has been found and another man has been seriously wounded in a shooting incident in south west Scotland.

Armed police were deployed to the scene at Old Bridge of Urr following the shooting at about 1140 GMT on Sunday.

A 48-year-old man is being treated in hospital for upper leg wounds. His condition is not life-threatening.

It is understood the dead man died as a result of a shotgun wound. He is believed to have taken his own life.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Officers said there was no current threat to the public.

A statement from Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said a firearms team was sent to the scene after the 48-year-old was shot in the leg.

It went on: "Whilst the search was ongoing information was received which led to the discovery of the body of a man, close to the location of the original shooting.

"At this stage inquiries are still ongoing however police are not now looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

"The procurator fiscal has been notified of this matter."

It is understood the men involved in the shooting knew each other.
