A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the death of a nurse following a head-on crash in the Borders.

Emma Maclennan, 31, suffered serious head injuries following the accident on the B6397 Earlston to Smailholm road on the morning of 14 October 2009.

She was taken to Borders General Hospital and transferred to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh where she died three days later.

The inquiry will get under way at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 7 March.

Mrs Maclennan, who lived with her husband in Earlston, in Berwickshire, had been driving a Nissan Micra when it was in collision with a Ford Zetec vehicle driven by an 18-year-old woman who was also taken to hospital.

It is understood the inquiry will focus on the B6397 road and its maintenance.
