Castle Douglas Town Hall fire brought under control

An overnight blaze at a town hall in south west Scotland has been brought under control.

Fire crews were called out to Castle Douglas Town Hall shortly before 0200 GMT.

The fire is understood to have started at the back of the Douglas Arms Hotel before spreading.

Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service is using thermal imaging equipment to check for any remaining hotspots.

The scale of the damage is not clear but part of the building is thought to be structurally unstable.

There are not thought to have been any casualties.
